The University of Sarajevo's Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, in cooperation with the Bosniak Institute – Adil Zulfikarpašić Foundation, is organizing the international scientific conference Srebrenica 1995: The Culmination of Genocide and the Aggression Against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to be held on 3 and 4 July 2026 in Sarajevo and Srebrenica. The conference is supported by the Government and the Assembly of Sarajevo Canton.
The commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in and around Srebrenica in 1995 provides an opportunity to pay tribute to the victims, reaffirm the importance of truth and justice, and further strengthen academic and societal efforts aimed at documenting, researching, and countering genocide denial.
Despite the adoption of the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, as well as the existence of legal provisions in Bosnia and Herzegovina prohibiting the glorification of convicted war criminals and the denial of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, the denial and relativization of these crimes continue to persist at the local, regional, and international levels. This places an additional responsibility on the academic community, research institutions, and scholars to continue safeguarding historically and judicially established facts through responsible, evidence-based research and public engagement.
