The University of Sarajevo – Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law is organising a press conference at which the interactive map “The Shelling of Sarajevo During the Siege,” authored by Dr. Merisa Karović-Babić, Senior Research Associate at the Institute, will be presented. The interactive map is being presented to the public on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the massacre at the Markale marketplace and the Day of Remembrance for all citizens of Sarajevo killed and wounded during the siege from 1992 to 1995.
The press conference and presentation of the interactive map will take place on Thursday, 5 February 2026, at the premises of the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo (Obala Kulina bana 7/II), starting at 10:00 a.m.
The interactive map contains detailed data on the time, place, and circumstances of the massacres, as well as the identities of the victims, accompanied by archival, photographic, and video documentation based on primary sources, testimonies, and field research. The interactive map aims to objectify historical facts, reduce the pervasive manipulation of crimes, and prevent violations of the dignity of the victims. The content of the interactive map is intended for all victims of the barbaric siege of Sarajevo, the citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, future generations, and educational institutions, with the aim of educating students and confronting Bosnian-Herzegovinian society with the truth about the crimes.
