As part of the celebration of the Sapna Municipality Day, the Sapna Cultural Center will host a book promotion for "Zvornik 1992–1995: Genocide at the Gate of Bosnia", by Dr. Sc. Muamer Džananović and Dr. Sc. Elvedin Mulagić. The promotion will take place on March 18, 2026, starting at 4:45 p.m., organized by the Sapna Municipality and the University of Sarajevo - Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law.
Dr. Sc. Zilha Mastalić Košuta, Dr. Sc. Jasmin Medić, Dr. Sc. Hikmet Karčić and Prof. Dr. Ermin Kuka will speak about the book at the promotion.
After the promotion, a joint iftar will be organized for all attendees, organized by the Sapna Municipality.
The book was recently published by the Institute and is the result of a ten-year empirical scientific research project based on extensive archival material and more than 200 authentic field video interviews with victims and witnesses. It is published in two volumes of 1,400 pages, structured in 15 chapters, with more than 4,500 footnotes and extensive appendices that include systematized lists of victims, an overview of mass graves exhumed in the Zvornik area, as well as other relevant documentation.
The work provides a detailed analysis of the political, military and police structures involved in the planning, management and execution of the crime, including the institutions of Serbia and Montenegro, the State Security of Serbia, the Yugoslav People's Army, "paramilitary" formations, the bureaucratic apparatus of the so-called "Serbian Municipality of Zvornik", and other actors of the crime. A special focus of the research is on documenting all war crimes and establishing the identities of the victims, with the contributions presenting basic biographical data and circumstances of the murder or disappearance of 2,472 victims from the Zvornik municipality in the period 1992–1995, including 392 Zvornik residents killed in the genocide in Srebrenica and its surroundings.
