THE INSTITUTE AND THE SREBRENICA MEMORIAL CENTER ORGANIZE A CONFERENCE IN SREBRENICA

The Srebrenica Memorial Center and the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo are organizing a conference titled: “The Massacre at the School Playground in Srebrenica on April 12, 1993: Facts, Responsibility, and the Culture of Remembrance”, dedicated to one of the gravest crimes committed against civilians during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The conference will be held on April 12, 2026, starting at 12:00 PM in Srebrenica.

The focus of the conference is the massacre committed on April 12, 1993, at a school playground in Srebrenica, when dozens of civilians were killed and many more wounded in an artillery attack carried out by the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS). The attack was conducted despite the presence of United Nations forces and prior assurances regarding the protection of the population. To this day, no one has been held accountable for this crime.

The aim of the conference is to highlight the facts surrounding this crime, its impunity, and to contribute to the preservation of the culture of remembrance, as well as to counter denial and relativization of crimes. The conference will be opened by Emir Suljagić, Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, and Muamer Džananović, Director of the Institute. During the conference, video testimonies of survivors will be presented, along with two panel discussions featuring witnesses, family members of victims, as well as scholars and researchers. The commemorative program also includes a laying of flowers at 11:00 AM at the playground in Srebrenica.

We invite you to attend this event.
