The Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gökhan Umut, visited the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law of the University of Sarajevo, where he met with the Director of the Institute, Dr. Muamer Džananović. Professor Ermin Kuka, PhD, Research Advisor at the Institute, also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the work of the Institute, its history, previous scientific research, publishing, and documentation activities, as well as current projects and challenges faced by this institution in its daily operations. Particular attention was devoted to possibilities for providing support to the Institute through the strengthening of its technical capacities.
TIKA Coordinator for Bosnia and Herzegovina Gökhan Umut emphasised that the work of the Institute has been recognised as important and socially responsible, particularly considering its contribution to researching, documenting, and presenting facts about crimes committed during the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He stressed TIKA’s readiness to support the work of the Institute in the coming period, in accordance with its capacities and procedures.
Director of the Institute, Dr. Muamer Džananović, expressed his gratitude to the TIKA Coordinator for the visit, the interest shown, and the willingness to discuss possible forms of cooperation and support for the Institute’s work. He emphasised the importance of international support for institutions engaged in scientific research into crimes against humanity, war crimes, and genocide, as well as institutions dedicated to preserving the culture of remembrance.
The meeting highlighted that the activities of the Institute are of particular importance for science, education, the culture of remembrance, and efforts to combat the denial and relativisation of committed crimes and genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
