A presentation of the books Jajce 1992: The Siege and Defence of the Royal Town and The Jajce 305/705th “Glorious Mountain Brigade” of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, written by Dr. Sc. Amir Kliko and published in 2025 by the University of Sarajevo – Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law, was held in the small hall of the Public Institution “Centre for Culture, Sports and Information” in Bužim.
The event was opened with introductory addresses by Edin Hozan, Mayor of the Municipality of Jajce, and Dr. Sc. Muamer Džananović, Director of the Institute.
Mayor Hozan emphasised the importance of nurturing a culture of remembrance, preserving historical memory, and presenting to the public books that document important events related to the defence of Jajce and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Institute Director Dr. Sc. Muamer Džananović spoke about the significance of the works being presented, emphasising their contribution and the need for the systematic research and documentation of the wartime past based on relevant sources. In his address, he also reflected on the establishment, growth and development of the Institute, its decades-long research and publishing activities, and the importance of continued scholarly work on the crimes committed, the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and various aspects of its defence. He stressed that the publication of scientifically grounded monographs represents one of the important components of the Institute’s mission and its contribution to preserving historical facts and collective memory.
In addition to the author, Dr. Sc. Amir Kliko, the books were presented by retired Brigadier General of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Fikret Ćuskić and General Emir Kliko. Through their presentations, the author and reviewers outlined the books’ content, sources and key research findings, as well as the broader historical context of the events addressed in the publications.
Speaking about his motivation for conducting the research and writing the books, Dr. Sc. Amir Kliko particularly emphasised his personal connection to the subject. As a native of Jajce and a minor who served in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the author did not view the events he writes about solely as a historian and researcher, but also experienced them to a certain extent firsthand. His wartime experience, connection to Jajce, and the need to preserve from oblivion the people, events and wartime history of the units that defended this area were among the key motivations for dedicating years to scholarly research on the subject and documenting it on the basis of available documentation, testimonies and other historical sources.
The book Jajce 1992: The Siege and Defence of the Royal Town examines events related to the siege and defence of Jajce in 1992, while the monograph The Jajce 305/705th “Glorious Mountain Brigade” of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina focuses on the establishment, organisation and wartime history of this Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina unit. Both publications contribute to the study of the wartime history of Jajce, as well as to the broader history of the defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the 1992–1995 period.
The presentation of the Institute’s publications was held as part of the “Freedom Days of the Heroic Town of Bužim” programme, an annual event featuring numerous activities dedicated to commemorating significant events from the Defence and Liberation War and nurturing a culture of remembrance. The programme was moderated by Agan Odobašić. The event was also attended by Mersudin Nanić, Mayor of the Municipality of Bužim, along with numerous other guests, members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and citizens.
