The book is a publication of the University of Sarajevo’s Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law. Based on years of systematic, empirically grounded research, it documents the scale of the destruction and damage inflicted on religious buildings in the Bosanska Krajina region between 1992 and the end of 1995, as well as the process of their post-war reconstruction.
According to the findings presented in the book, of the 248 mosques that existed in the Bosanska Krajina region in 1992, a total of 208, or 83.7 per cent, were completely destroyed or sustained varying degrees of damage.
The authors based their research on archival materials, fieldwork, testimonies, relevant academic literature, forensic expert reports and extensive photographic documentation. The book thus provides insight into the circumstances surrounding the destruction of religious buildings, as well as the historical, demographic, social and political context of the areas where the crimes were committed.
