It's in Belgrade, 2-3. November, a conference dedicated to researching discrimination against Roma and Muslims in Europe was held. This multidisciplinary project, organized by the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory from Belgrade, the Center for Advanced Studies from Sarajevo and the Faculty of Humanities of Charles University in Prague, brought together academics and experts from different fields to investigate various aspects of anti-Muslim, anti- Roma and multiple discrimination in Central and Southeastern Europe. The conference was attended by Dr. Muamer Džananović - senior research associate of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo and Dr. Hikmet Karčić - research associate of the Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law, University of Sarajevo
During the meeting, the works of prominent academics and experts were presented on the topics of numerous cases of Islamophobia and Romaphobia, historical reviews of the persecution and physical elimination of Roma during the Second World War, wartime events in Bosnia and Herzegovina, studies of gender discrimination and the position of Muslim and Roma women, as well as issues of education. and inclusion, and programs to combat (non)violent extremism.
The working group will publish its research and papers in a special issue entitled "Contesting Identities of Roma and Muslims in Central and Southeastern Europe: Reflections on Persecutions, Multiple Discriminations, and Forms of Activism" in early 2024.
This project aims to shed light on deep-rooted forms of discrimination and contribute to the development of inclusion strategies for the Roma and Muslim communities in Europe.
