On April 12, 2026, employees of the University of Sarajevo – Institute for Research of Crimes against Humanity and International Law visited the Srebrenica Memorial Center, where they were introduced to the institution’s activities to date as well as its ongoing development projects. The Center is of exceptional importance for the culture of remembrance in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The host of the visit was the Director of the Memorial Center, Dr. Emir Suljagić, who presented the key segments of the Center’s work, including its research, documentation, and educational activities, as well as projects aimed at preserving the memory of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
During the visit, the Institute’s employees toured the museum exhibitions of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, including the exhibitions “Lives Behind the Fields of Death” and “In the Footsteps of Those Who Did (Not) Cross,” as well as the Genocide Museum. The museum spans 4,300 square meters and represents the result of three years of work by the Center’s team in shaping a comprehensive narrative about the beginning of the war, life in the enclave, the genocide, and its long-term consequences. Through the permanent exhibitions and accompanying content, the visitors further deepened their understanding of the scale of the crimes committed, as well as the efforts invested in their documentation and presentation to both domestic and international audiences.
This visit represents a continuation of cooperation between the Institute and the Srebrenica Memorial Center, with the aim of strengthening scientific research, exchanging knowledge, and advancing a culture of remembrance based on facts and documented sources.
